African Language Proficiency Assessment Service
The National African Language Resource Center (NALRC) supports and promotes access to less commonly taught and under-resourced African languages (excluding Swahili and Yoruba). We provide language proficiency assessments for students and individuals who need to demonstrate their competency in an African language to fulfill academic or professional requirements.
Our Process
- Request: Contact us at nalrc@iu.edu to request an assessment.
- Assessor Search: We locate a qualified assessor for your specific language.
- Connection: We connect you with the assessor to arrange the test.
- Evaluation: The assessor conducts the language proficiency test.
- Reporting: Upon completion, we receive the results and produce a formal report for you.
Key Features
- Specialized Service: We focus on less commonly taught, under-resourced African languages.
- Authenticated Testing: Our assessments are facilitated and authenticated by NALRC.
- Flexible Arrangements: Tests are conducted based on the availability of both the test taker and assessors.
- Formal Documentation: You receive an official report of your language proficiency.
Important Note
This service does not include Swahili and Yoruba, as these languages are already supported through our partnership with Avant Assessment. Avant offers standardized proficiency tests for Swahili and Yoruba using their STAMP platform, providing assessment of reading, speaking, and writing skills.
Pricing
The fee for our assessment service is $60, payable after the completion of the test.
By offering this service, NALRC aims to bridge the gap in language assessment resources for African languages, supporting both academic pursuits and professional development. Our goal is to enhance accessibility to African language proficiency testing and contribute to the broader field of African language education and research.
